After Effects CS5 is Adobe’s dominant motion graphics application for professional and amateur visual effects artists and designers. This software is one of those new versions of Adobe CS to go 64-bit system, getting the advantage of the multi-core processors and higher RAM. In this version, I am very impressed with Roto Brush tool. It is the most exposed new feature which appears the same in function to the old plug-in of Photoshop (called Extract), but when I try to use it, it works very differently, since it extends more than a few frames of footage at a time.

In addition, Auto-key frame mode is another new feature designed to make After Effects CS5 activities easier and faster. If you change the set of parameters, the key frames will automatically be added for each one at the existing timeline indicator. This software can also now read raw RED cam footage and native AVC-intra files. The software maybe expensive, but If you are a talented video enthusiast, it is worth trying out.

Pros

  • Increased workflow for HD video
  • It has excellent new features

Cons

  • It is quite confusing for beginners

If you are into visual effects, you may have already encountered Adobe After Effects CS5. It is a powerful motion graphics program used by professionals who want to bring out the best in their work. It is very helpful especially if you want to edit videos. Personally, I use it to edit the footages related to weddings, baptisms and other special occasions of my clients. I can add music including text to the photos I’ve taken. It also has other features that I find very useful. I like the Auto-Keyframe option because I can set keyframes that will provide some animation to my work. There is also the Digieffects FreeForm wherein 3D shapes become possible when flat objects are converted through this plug-in. If you want to further improve the hue of your footages, you can take advantage of the software’s Color Finesse feature. Adobe After Effects CS5 has tons of great features to create stunning motion graphics. You just have to find time to explore and master them.

Pros

  • Refine Matte effect is available
  • Auto-Keyframe mode can be utilized

Cons

  • Some features may baffle novice users

After Effects CS5 involves a 64 bit processor. You have to ensure your PC is capable of managing this powerful program. Now I can accomplish my tasks quickly, thanks to its new features and upgrades. Another plus with the upgrade 64-bit processors is that the capability to preview a large number of videos, which is priceless when tweaking with effects. If your computer has more RAM, previews of larger and longer clips is allowable before you can render them. In addition, this program claims that there is no limit to the memory performance. Though my computer only has 7 or 8 GB of RAM, I could not experiment this theory.

Moreover, the new After Effects is attuned to formats from previous versions, something which older After Effects could not handle. Also, ACHD formats are now well-matched and it now works with the RED camera. Thanks to its 64-bit memory, it now easier than before to work between Adobe’s After Effects and Premiere when creating footages for your projects.

Pros

  • Features are easy to understand
  • The graphic designing ended up pretty well

Cons

  • The price is a bit high, but worth it
